Learning to Receive
What’s this about?
The whole point behind Toronto Joy is coming together to serve, our time, our energy, our presence. But what about receiving? At times I’ve found it hard to receive.
Sometimes, when someone gives a compliment or offers to help, something in me still tenses up. I remember one period after being away for a long stretch, I wasn’t working. Someone offered to pay for something, and I still wanted to pay myself. I thought letting someone else pay said something bad about me. That was the first time I noticed this pattern in myself so clearly.
I don’t think I’m the only one who’s felt that. So this week, we’re bringing it to the group.
What you’ll walk away with:
- A better sense of how you personally react to a compliment, help, or kindness
- Why rejecting small kindness can quietly train us to reject bigger things too
- Why receiving isn’t weakness, it’s what makes giving sustainable
- A real conversation with others who’ve felt this too
This is for you if:
Whether you’re usually the one giving, or the one on the receiving end, this is a nice conversation to be part of.
