Toronto Joy Community & Participant Agreement
Before participating in any Toronto Joy activity, whether in person or online, please review and acknowledge the following waiver and confirmation. This helps ensure clarity, safety, respect, and shared understanding for everyone involved.
Some Toronto Joy activities may include additional guidelines from the partner organization or location where we are serving. If additional guidelines are shared on the event page, in the event description, or by email before the activity, please review them before attending.
By registering with Toronto Joy and participating in any Toronto Joy activity, including volunteer activities, online events, and community gatherings, I acknowledge and agree to the following.
Voluntary Participation
I understand that my participation is entirely voluntary.
Nature of Activities
I understand that Toronto Joy activities may vary by event and may include serving food or beverages, food preparation, cleaning, sorting or packing items, lifting or moving materials, assisting with programs, other general volunteer duties, and online or virtual community gatherings.
Online and Virtual Events
By registering for an online or virtual Toronto Joy event, including The Journey Home sessions and other online gatherings, I understand and agree to the following.
I consent to participating in a virtual gathering which may include video, audio, and screen sharing. Sessions may be recorded for internal purposes only and will not be shared publicly without participant consent.
I agree to engage respectfully and in keeping with Toronto Joy’s values of kindness, openness, and community. Disruptive, disrespectful, or harmful behaviour during virtual sessions may result in removal from the call.
I understand that I must not record, screenshot, or share any content, conversations, or identifying information from virtual sessions without the express permission of Toronto Joy and all participants involved.
Important Disclaimer for Online Sessions
Toronto Joy’s online sessions, including The Journey Home, are community gatherings focused on personal reflection, shared learning, and human connection. They are not therapy, counselling, or any form of mental health treatment. Nothing shared in these sessions should be taken as medical, psychological, or professional advice of any kind. If you are experiencing a mental health concern or personal crisis, please seek support from a qualified professional or contact a crisis helpline in your area.
Toronto Joy organizers and facilitators are community members and volunteers, not licensed therapists, counsellors, or medical professionals.
Assumption of Risk
I understand that participation in Toronto Joy activities may involve certain risks, including but not limited to physical strain, slips or falls, cuts, burns, lifting related injuries, use of tools or equipment, travel to and from the activity, interaction with members of the public or individuals in difficult circumstances, and participation in online environments. I voluntarily accept these risks.
Release of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release Toronto Joy, its founder, organizers, volunteers, team members, coordinators, and partner organizations from claims, liability, damages, or expenses arising from or related to my participation in any Toronto Joy activity, whether in person or online, except where prohibited by law.
Personal Responsibility
I agree to act respectfully, follow all instructions, policies, and safety guidelines, and contribute to a safe and positive environment for everyone involved.
I understand that I am responsible for my own conduct while participating in any Toronto Joy activity.
Media, Photos and Videos
I understand that during Toronto Joy activities, photos, videos, or other media may be taken to document the work being done, highlight community impact, share volunteer experiences, and encourage community involvement.
I understand that Toronto Joy may use these photos, videos, or other media on its website, social media channels, newsletters, event pages, flyers, outreach materials, and other community or promotional communications.
I understand that I should not take or share photos, videos, or identifying information of guests, clients, or service users unless permission has been clearly provided by the Toronto Joy team or partner organization.
I understand that Toronto Joy will make reasonable efforts to capture and share photos, videos, and other media in a respectful and appropriate manner.
Partner Organization
Guidelines, Conduct and Boundaries
I understand that some Toronto Joy volunteer activities may take place at partner organizations, shelters, community agencies, nonprofits, or other community spaces.
I agree to follow all instructions, policies, safety procedures, and directions provided by the partner organization, its staff, Toronto Joy organizers, and on-site coordinators.
I agree to treat all guests, clients, service users, staff, volunteers, and community members with respect, dignity, kindness, and professionalism.
I understand that confidentiality is important. I will not share private information, personal stories, photos, videos, or identifying details of guests, clients, service users, staff, volunteers, or community members without proper permission.
I agree to maintain appropriate boundaries with all guests, clients, service users, staff, volunteers, and community members while participating.
I understand that personal donations, gifts, or items for guests or clients should go through the partner organization and should not be given directly unless the partner organization has clearly allowed it.
I understand that I may be required to sign in and sign out when I arrive and leave, depending on the partner organization’s process.
I agree that if there is an urgent concern, incident, injury, or safety issue while on-site, I will immediately notify the partner organization staff, Toronto Joy organizer, or on-site coordinator.
I understand that Toronto Joy or the partner organization may ask me to stop participating or leave the activity if I do not follow the guidelines, safety instructions, or expected standards of conduct.
Health Confirmation
I confirm that I am able to participate safely in the activities I attend.
I will inform the Toronto Joy organizer or on-site coordinator if I have any condition, limitation, or concern that may affect my safe participation.
Emergency Medical Care
In the event of an emergency during an in person activity, I authorize Toronto Joy and or the partner organization to obtain medical assistance for me if necessary.
I understand that I am responsible for my own medical costs unless otherwise covered by insurance.
Data Privacy
The personal information I provide during registration, including my name, email address, and phone number, is collected solely for the purpose of coordinating Toronto Joy volunteer activities and events. This information is stored securely and will not be shared with third parties except where required to coordinate with partner organizations for specific events. I may request removal of my information at any time by contacting the Toronto Joy team directly.
