SUMMARY:Both Sides of Service
DESCRIPTION:Toronto Joy is built on service. That means showing up for someone else\, helping however we can. \nBut there’s another part of it I want to share more of. Serving ourselves too\, through our own growth\, character\, knowledge\, things like that. Helping people does that\, but this session does too. Just turned more inward. \nI’ve found that when I take real time to get clearer\, more focused\, and more grounded\, I bring more back to everyone around me. More patience. More presence. More joy. \nI’ve found meditation adds so much value to this development. I’m not talking religion or anything like that. Just being connected to yourself in a better way. \nThat’s a part of what this is for. \nThis Saturday\, 11am to 12pm\, I’ll walk us through the 6 Phase Meditation\, built by Vishen Lakhiani. It moves through six areas: gratitude\, forgiveness\, imagining where you’re headed\, setting an intention\, wishing good things for others\, and then for yourself. It’s very practical. \nAfterward we’ll sit quietly with soft instrumental music playing in the background. \nAthletes and public figures who’ve used the 6 Phase Meditation\, and found it so impactful:\n✦ Tony Gonzalez\, NFL Hall of Famer\n✦ Reggie Jackson\, NBA point guard\n✦ Bianca Andreescu\, Canadian pro tennis player \nThis one runs longer than what we usually do\, about 30 to 40 minutes of meditation (yes\, you can move and come back\, whatever is comfortable)\, then a short discussion at the end. Only if you want to share. No pressure either way. \nNo registration needed for this one. Online\, social gathering\, open to everyone. I only ask for registration at our volunteer shifts\, since those need me to know who’s on site\, for safety. \nCome as you are. No meditation experience needed.\n✦ Bring something comfortable to sit on\, or a chair is fine\n✦ Bring water if you’d like\n✦ This is a really nice space together\, not therapy or professional treatment \nLooking forward to sitting with you all this Saturday.

SUMMARY:Community Meal Service at Good Shepherd
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE EVENT \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAn opportunity to serve the homeless and those at risk as a group.
During our recent sessions\, we served meals\, chopped veggies\, made sandwiches\, and helped prepare pasta. Each session is similar; however\, tasks may vary depending on the need at hand (e.g.\, sorting food). We had a great time serving together with lots of smiles and good energy. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOnly 6 spots are available. If you sign up\, please do so with the intention of attending\, as the organization relies on our numbers for planning. We will send a reconfirmation message closer to the date\, and if any spots become available\, we will reach out to those on the waiting list. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhen you arrive at Reception\, the staff will guide you to the volunteer room\, where you can place your belongings in a locker and meet the group. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPlease also review the official Good Shepherd volunteer guidelines before attending this shift: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q-gAYE48yfAI9fq9YxrBVTxLLF24NU2T/view                            \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe guidelines include important information around safety\, confidentiality\, boundaries\, conduct\, and what to expect while volunteering on-site. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nGood to know:
 \n\n\n\n• Closed-toe shoes are required.
\n\n\n\n• Tie back long hair; minimal jewelry. \n\n\n\n• Please arrive by 1:40 PM at the latest so we can plan who will be doing which roles and begin together. \n\n\n\n• If you can’t make it due to an emergency\, please message me as soon as possible 🙏 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nGrateful to serve alongside you.

SUMMARY:Toronto Joy Social: Meet\, Mingle\, and a Walk Along the Water
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone\, \nCome spend a Sunday with us. Meet some good people\, share a few laughs\, and be part of something good. \nThis is a Toronto Joy social\, a chance to get to know the people behind this community. You don’t need to have volunteered with us before. Come as you are. \nBring a friend if you’d like. Everyone’s welcome. \nHere’s what the day looks like: \n✦ Meet at The Well. We’ll start with easy introductions and a few icebreakers\, so no one’s standing around feeling like a stranger. We’ll have name tags too\, so it’s easy to find us and know who you’re talking to. Grab a bite if you’d like\, or save your appetite for the waterfront. Either way\, settle in and let’s get to know each other. \n✦ I’ll share what we’re dreaming up. The projects ahead\, where Toronto Joy is going\, and how we’re growing so we can serve the community in real ways. I’d love to hear what you’d want to be part of too. \n✦ Then we walk down to Harbourfront together. At 4pm there’s a free concert at the Toronto Music Garden\, right on the water. Two brothers from Santiago de Cuba bringing the warmth of Cuban music. The waterfront’s alive that day with soccer\, art\, and music. Stay as long as you like and soak it all up. No rush to head off. \nNo need to register. Just show up. \nWhere to meet (inside The Well\, food court across from Shoppers): \n\nHead toward La Plume or The Dorset restaurant\, then turn toward the statue and take the stairs down to the lower level.\nAcross from Shoppers\, you’ll see the entrance to The Well’s food court.\nHead in\, and the long tables will be on your left. That’s us.
